EDUCATIONAL WORK

Our company is actively involved in four aspects of education in our industry.

1. College Visits

Amazing Animals hosts a limited number of educational visits to colleges and universities. These visits are designed to educate students on the methods and values of animal training as well as provide an insight into our industry. Furthermore, we offer support for selected students who wish to study animal behaviour. Several dissertations have been based on extensive study carried out at our base at Heythrop Zoo. We also provide speakers to visit agricultural colleges. For more details about us visiting you or you coming to us, please visit www.heythropzoologicalgardens.org/school-and-college-visits

“I wanted to send this e-mail on behalf of myself and the students here at Moreton Morrell. We very much enjoyed having Emma and Jamie here yesterday morning and found their talk really informative and a great contribution the modules we have been covering. It was really great to see all of the the work you do and see how animals are used in the AV industry.

Emma and Jamie were lovely to talk to, were very open and answered all of the students’ questions, which we all found really valuable. Please pass on our thanks to them.”

Ruth Bentley – Course Manager/Lecturer in Animal Science, Warwickshire College Group, Moreton Morrell

2. Animal Roadshows for Schools

We have been running roadshows at special events for the past 40 years and now offer a tailor-made service to schools. As we all know, outcomes across the curriculum improve when pupils learn from first-hand experience. Therefore, what could be better when starting a Science project than to investigate real live animals visiting your school, complete with trainers who can give educational talks and answer questions? Please click here for our Roadshows for Schools page for more details about us visiting you or you coming to us, please visit www.heythropzoologicalgardens.org/school-and-college-visits

3. Promoting accredited vocational qualifications for our industry

Our company were at the forefront of introducing NVQ/QCF qualifications. Our staff were among the first to gain City and Guilds accredited qualifications in animal training. We were also amongst the first to have members of staff qualify as OCR A1 assessors, which enables us to provide an accredited qualification route through our company. We currently have the largest employed workforce of qualified animal trainers in the UK. One member of our staff won the City and Guild Medal of Excellence and had this accolade presented to her at Buckingham Palace by the Duke of Edinburgh in 2011. She also went on to win the City and Guilds Innovator of the Year. If you are interested please see details on our work experience page.

4. Promoting awareness of animals and the promotion of natural science

Amazing Animals has had a longstanding career in the development of Natural History Documentaries and books. We have been actively involved in several scientific projects that have been made possible only with the use of our trained animals. We believe that our wild animals are the ambassadors for their cousins in the wild state. By showcasing wild animals to the general public we indirectly help create more awareness for their conservation.
