Amazing Animals has the largest custom-built private zoo location, specifically designed for the audio-visual media industries in Europe. The premises began construction in 1988 and are in continual development. Set in the secluded North Oxfordshire Cotswolds, the location not only contains large stylised buildings for exterior location scenery but also woodland and large open fields. The actual zoo is designed like a classic zoo; architecturally inspired by London Zoo.
The facilities for the animals are in line with the standards of a modern zoo thus ensuring clients get the best of both worlds. Amazing Animals believe that aesthetically pleasing designs need not compromise high standards of animal welfare.
Major motion pictures, such as Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Legend of Tarzan” and “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle”, had Amazing Animals’ action filmed at their onsite studio.
Heythrop Zoological Gardens, has a modern design but with the exaggerated outward appearance of a classic zoo. This means they not only care for their animals in line with modern scientific zoological practices but also provide a facility that is ideal for filming on location. Many TV programmes (“A Touch of Frost”, “Jekyll”, “Dalziel and Pascoe” etc.), commercials (“Fiat Panda”) and feature films (“The League of Gentlemen: Apocalypse”, the “Harry Potter” film series etc.) have prominently used the zoo’s particular features as a setting. Other clients such as BBC’s “Dr Who”, “Vestatech”, “Land Rover”, “Steve Leonard’s Extreme Animals” and “Drew Gardner Photography” have made use of the zoo’s English countryside location to film the animals in the zoo woodland and fields.
Amazing Animals’ studio space is where the main action occurs. Over 50% of Amazing Animals’ work is now done on site in their own studio space with green/bluescreen background, where they can set up most situations. This enables clients to create some incredible visual scenes with their animals. The majority of the commercials you will see with their wild animals will have been filmed at their studio. Although most of the animals can be travelled to studios and locations around the UK, many clients prefer to take advantage of the inexpensive rates of working inside the zoo. This means Amazing Animals not only cares for their animals in line with modern scientific zoological methods, but also provides a facility that is ideal for filming on location. It also gives the client greater access to the variety of species they have in the collection.
