WORK EXPERIENCE & EMPLOYMENT
Please do not send in any applications until or after 2nd October 2017. All 2017 placements are taken. Amazing Animals/Heythrop Zoological Gardens will be reviewing all 2018 applications from 2nd October onwards. Thank you for your patience.
Please complete our application form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org along with your full CV. Please note that this application form is for 18 years and over. We take on a limited number of students aged 16-17 years of age only from our local schools.
If this is all in order and we think you might be suitable you will be invited to attend an onsite interview at our zoo
If this interview is successful you will be then invited to attend one week’s trial
If at the end of the trial you are happy with the placement and we cannot foresee any problems you will be invited to begin a six week uninterrupted placement
We have a strict work experience scheme for two reasons. Firstly our work is highly specialised and we have a lot of demand for work experience placements. Secondly we pool future paid employees from work experience placements and even provide accredited qualifications for our industry.
We have a regular working relationship with the following educational institutions and have accepted work experience students from all of them:
- Sparsholt College
- Berkshire College
- University of Chester
- Hartpury College
- Moreton Morrell (Warwickshire College)
These are the awarding bodies that provide qualifications relevant to our industry:
Amazing Animals/Heythrop Zoological Gardens was invited to be involved in the creation of the government’s Trailblazer Apprenticeships in Animal Care. In 2016/2017 Amazing Anmals were part of a group of industry consultants that helped gain recognition for “Animal Training at Level 4”, one of two out of a proposed eight that were accepted as apprenticeships . The standard was published in July 2017. Amazing Animals is listed as one of the developers of this standard, ensuring that it will be suited to their industry. The apprenticeship is not ready to use, but hopefully will be up and running in 2018.
